Our Business

With the ultimate goal to end the digital divide in education for low-income schools, Emerge is redefining the idea of digital infrastructure in education by providing the optimal ed-tech delivery system. It is conceptualized by the Emerge Trinity:

  1. Hardware

  2. Software

  3. S.E.A.D

Hardware

The most affordable and durable LCD Projector-Computer available in the education technology market. Our hardware combines a bright, dustproof and portable HD Projector with an inbuilt and fully integrated Intel Atom processor, 500GB HDD and educational content running on Windows 10, Linux or Android software. All you need is our lightweight projector, a wireless keyboard and mouse, a suitable wall to project and a power supply. No screens, fixtures or stands required; and a battery/solar power option as well as low native power consumption further optimize the Emerge hardware in terms of costs. We want to create a group learning device meant to replace expensive/underutilized computer labs or to provide an affordable option for group learning content while remaining manageable for teachers and engaging for students. Since these devices are built for disconnected communities, they are stress tested, consolidated and designed to be used for multiple hours. Eventually, the idea is to increase individual engagement and we have also prototyped mini-PCs as a future addition to the hardware.

Software

A platform that interlinks multiple catalogs, repositories, and other educational resources in order to curate and organize currently-fragmented learning resources from across the internet. Designed to be the first search engine for educational content tailored towards education system needs in developing context, the Emerge database promises to be optimized for the specific audience using it and will augment the most amazing content being designed all over the world and published online to the next billion connected learners all over India and beyond.

S.E.A.D.

Sustainability. Engagement. Affordability. Durability.

The core quadrant underlying our offering. To be able to effectively provide digital access to the targeted areas, we put a huge emphasis on following through once our affordable hardware or software has been established in the schools. A large part of our overall solution is to ensure that our devices remain engaging and are actually utilized by students, since engagement and measured improvement across honestly-defined learning metrics has historically been a challenge with previous digital infrastructure programs and startups such as One Laptop Per Child (a $200 million initiative led by the UN and MIT Media Lab in 2010 which failed due to cost overruns and device mismanagement), or the 2011 Akash Tablet program by the Indian Government that failed due to quality issues. Our offering was inspired by our passion for education and our frustration with the inability of past big-ticket programs to understand the realistic on the ground requirements of students in developing markets, which leads to a blind replication of developed-economy solutions to a developing educational context. Our product is the result of extensive teaching experiences and on the ground testing in rural Ghana and India. This makes it not just a device, but a fully run education delivery system to improve engagement in villages and rural areas.
